Love of Country vs. Love of Government

Coming out of the 4th of July and Independence Day weekend celebrations, I have to admit, I am somewhat saddened by the number of negative, hateful, and anti-American posts on social media, and even in the mainstream media during the weekend.

Democrats raging over the passing of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” by Congress, and signed by President Trump on the 4th of July. They falsely claim it would cut taxes only for “millionaires and billionaires”, and, according to Hakeem Jeffries during his 8 hours of grandstanding on the House floor, the bill will literally let people die on the streets. There is definitely no shortage of fear mongering, lies, and hateful propaganda coming from the left. This was the same tactic used during the election last year, and we can see how well it’s worked for them so far. Let’s remember none of it is true, unless we have millionaires hoping for a tax cut on the social security check coming in each month to survive.

Beyond the OBBB however, we need to remember that this weekend was not about a single piece of legislation. This weekend was about the creation of the greatest nation on the face of the Earth. With all it’s flaws, and tribulations, the United States has always been, and still remains the greatest nation to ever exist.

And it’s because of one distinct point that differentiates conservatives and liberals.

During the atrocious years of Barack Obama wanting to “fundamentally change the United State”, and the years of the auto pen… I mean Joe Biden sleeping in office, conservatives feared for the nation, and politically fought against the centralization of power. Yet, on Independence Day each year, we were big enough to celebrate what this nation represents, not what the government was doing.

We still waived our American flags. We still sang “America the Beautiful”. We still wished everyone a happy holiday, blind to political affiliation, identity politics, or any other divisive manner. In other words, on Independence Day, we were all American. And we understood the difference between loving a nation and the idea behind the nation from our founding fathers, and what our government was currently doing.

Democrats on the other hand seem to not be able to tell the difference. To them, the government IS the nation. And it makes sense with their policies. Wanting government run education. Government run environmental policy. Government run social programs. Government mandates on health. Government social credit scores based on wokeness. Government control over distribution of means and goods. Government run grocery stores. Government healthcare. Government control over personal wealth.

You get the point.

To Democrats, if the government is doing what THEY want, then the nation is healthy and doing well. However; if the government is run by the opposition, then the nation is somehow now unhealthy, run by tyrants, and we should all be ashamed of the country we live in. It’s a side that openly now supports terrorist nations over our own. A side that openly calls for the removal of a leader because they are ignorant to what fascism and Nazism actually looks like. And it’s a side that needs to begin some self reflection on who they actually are.

Just because someone with a different political view is winning, doesn’t mean you trash the nation that gives you more freedoms and rights than any other nation on the face of the Earth. A nation that allows you to protest (peacefully). A nation that allows you the right to defend yourself and keep you and your family safe. A nation that gives everyone equal opportunity, no equal outcome, to live the American dream.

Let’s get back to realizing we may agree or disagree with what the government itself is doing, but recognize the government is not what America is. And for that, regardless of political affiliation or identity politics, I say Happy Independence Day to all.
