It’s wedding season and one Marine veteran and his bride made news with the theme they chose for their big day.
In Kalamazoo, Michigan, Jeff and Audra Johnson had their wedding that honored America and President Donald Trump on the 4th of July. The bride wore a dress made from a Make America Great Again flag and American flag- painted nails. The groom wore his Marine Corps dress blue uniform and posed for pictures holding a rifle. The groomsmen wore “Don’t Tread on Me” cufflinks and the whole bridal party, with the exception of one bridesmaid, put on red MAGA hats for photos. The reception tables had anti-abortion heartbeat bill petitions.
According to the bride, the choice of theme for the wedding created some divisions among the family. The groom’s father chose not to attend the wedding due to the MAGA theme.
“He sent us a text message,” said bride Audra Johnson. “It said, ‘As long as you support that racist in the White House, I won’t be attending your wedding.’ Which is sad but we did have a lot of people that loved us and showed up.”
Although a Democrat, the maid of honor did not put on a MAGA hat, was a good sport about the whole thing, and opted to wear a plain red hat for the group photos.
“We were gonna do our photos with the Trump hats and [the maid of honor] said, ‘You know I love you, but I can’t wear the Trump hat,'” Johnson told Fox 17.
“I said, ‘It’s OK. It’s OK. Just wear a red hat. We still love you. We can have completely different opinions about everything and still love each other.”
Similarly, last week President Trump “crashed” a MAGA-themed wedding being held at his Bedminster, New Jersey gold resort. As the Daily Caller reported, the wedding adornments included “Trump 2020” flags in the reception hall and guests donned MAGA hats.
