The personal information of roughly 21,426 Marines, sailors and civilians has been compromised.
According to a report by Marine Corps Times, the data includes social security numbers, bank electronic funds transfer and bank routing numbers, credit card information, mailing and residential addresses as well as emergency contact information.
The “major data spillage” occurred after an unencrypted email was sent to the wrong list Monday.
Though it is believed there was “no malicious intent,” an investigation is underway.
