Netflix has canceled comedian Michelle Wolf’s talk show “The Break” after less than three months. Of course, critics have claimed that Netflix has caved to pressure from subscribers upset over controversial skits, such as the one in which abortion was championed; however, it is important to note that Netflix did not kill the show because of this…they just utilized their right to choose to not let the next season happen.
Wolf first gained mainstream attention on April 28, 2018 at the now-infamous 2018 White House Correspondent’s Dinner, where her disastrous 19-minute routine was so offensive that C-SPAN stopped broadcasting halfway through out of fears of FCC fines. She attacked the personal appearances of women in the Trump administration, while also making jokes about pedophilia and the Harvey Weinstein rapes.
“I’m never really sure what to call Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Is it Sarah Sanders? Is it Sarah Huckabee Sanders? Is it Cousin Huckabee? Is it Auntie Huckabee Sanders? Like, what’s Uncle Tom but for white women who disappoint other white women?” said Michelle Wolf at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner.
Prior to entering the comedy world, Wolf worked in mutual funds and account management for years on Wall Street, for both Bear Stearns and JPMorgan Chase. Despite her privileged and white-collar background, she has the tendency to attack “white privilege” and the business acumen of President Donald Trump. Think about that for a second. Before launching a career in show business, Wolf’s bills were paid by Bear Stearns and JPMorgan Chase, and therefore the federal bailout money for an industry “too big to fail.” I guess double standards have been a part of Michelle Wolf’s life in both the banking and comic world.
Michelle revelled in Roseanne being canceled, citing the alleged racism involved. However, prior to her appearance at the Correspondent’s Dinner and her Netflix show, Wolf tried to hide the fact that she has a long history of jokes that the left would call “problematic.” She deleted thousands of tweets in which she accused Serena Williams of being a man, called one of the son’s of President Trump an “abortion,” and most hypocritically of all said “Being racist isn’t good, but it sure does save all that time of getting to know people before you find out you don’t like them.”
“People keep saying that Roseanne is being held to a double standard because she got fired for her tweet while despicable people like Bill Maher and Sam Been and me get away with making offensive jokes all the time” Michelle Wolf commented in June 2018.
According to Deadline, the show was canceled due to abysmally low viewership numbers. It may be entirely possible that more people canceled Netflix subscriptions over Wolf’s disgusting ‘God Bless Abortions” bit than actually watched her show. Compare this to “Aggretsuko,” an animated show about a red panda who is an accountant by day and a karaoke bar death-metal singer by night…yeah, that was renewed for a second season before “The Break With Michelle Wolf.” So I guess I take it back, I have laughed about something Michelle Wolf has done…or failed to do, if we’re being accurate.
