One City Official’s Answer to Drive-By Shootings? Speed Bumps!

By: - May 18, 2019

File this one under the You Can’t Make This $#!+ Up category. With all the violence occurring in leftist-run cities across America, one city council woman in Seattle (where else) is thinking outside the proverbial box. In fact, she’s so far out of the box, even the Hubble Space Telescope wouldn’t be powerful enough to help you see the box.

A recent suspected gang shooting occurred in which, according to police, one person was killed and two others injured in the 2100 Block of East Union Street (my old beat). Inspired to offer constructive suggestions for dealing with drive-by shootings in residential areas, Seattle’s openly socialist, most anti-cop —oh, and shrill— city councilwoman, Kshama Sawant has offered an innovative solution to end the violence: Speed bumps.

Remember, she’s the one who chose National Police Week to insult police officers.

Sawant has suggested installing speed bumps and raised planters in neighborhoods experiencing drive-by shootings. Yes, you read right. Speed bumps are those raised “traffic calming devices,” essentially a bump comprised of concrete or asphalt installed on a roadway to cajole drivers into slowing before driving over one.

To add some texture to this city official’s political positions, Sawant opposes putting more police officers on emphasis patrols to combat drive-by shootings in neighborhoods. She was also the only city council member to oppose ratifying the city’s recent labor contract with the cops. In fact, she bragged about it.

You see, she really, really… really doesn’t like cops. If you read my recent article, Sawant marked National Police Week by saying police officers “overwhelmingly disproportionately targeted” black people in police shootings. Yes, targeted!

So, if the city’s Department of Transportation is also looking to think outside the box, I’ve got a constructive suggestion for something other than concrete or asphalt to use for at least one of those speed bumps.
