“Bergdahl said that his duty station at FOB Sharana was terrible, dangerous, and poorly led, among other things. I was at FOB Sharana, the post he is referring to, for several years as a contractor. It was, in my opinion, one of the best assignments I had while in Afghanistan.”
As Bowe Bergdahl spouts off how the Taliban is more honest than the US Army, he is digging his own grave. Personally, I hope he jumps in.
After pleading guilty to all charges, he is scheduled to be sentenced today. I assume he and his legal defense team decided he had no case at all. They did not even ask for or receive a plea deal with the prosecution. Normally taking a “naked plea” as Bergdahl has done here is a precarious move. He is counting on the mercy of the judge.
Bergdahl decided not to plead his case before a jury of his peers. I can’t imagine why – well, yes, I can. I do not know of any soldier that looks kindly on his actions.
Bowe Bergdahl, I refuse to call him Sergeant, violated the most basic of principles that all soldiers live by. He deserted his post. He deserted his post in wartime, and his desertion directly led to the injury and death of several soldiers trying to find him.

The very mention of “soldier” and “Bergdahl” in the same sentence leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
Bowe Bergdahl is the epitome of what a soldier is not supposed to be. He thought he knew better. He knew better than his NCOs. He knew better than his Commissioned leader, and he took the holier than thou attitude with him when he walked off his post and abandoned his fellow soldiers.
Bergdahl deserted. He has pleaded to “misbehavior before the enemy by endangering the safety of a command, unit or place.” Somehow he wears the stripes of an NCO. I certainly hope that ends today.
I am long retired, but I am still a Morales Member and part of a very select group of NCOs in the Army. Just like members of the Audie Murphy Club, we are considered to be the top 2%. I worked for my stripes; they were not awarded. I earned my stripes just like every other NCO in the service earns them – through hard work and proving they are deserved. To see Bergdahl wear the insignia of leadership makes me sick.

Bowe Bergdahl is an affront to what all soldiers hold sacred and dear. I would like to see a stiff penalty, but if that is not in the cards, he needs to just go away. He rates no notoriety. He rates no publicity. He is a traitor plain and simple and should be shunned and forgotten in the pages of history. The very mention of “soldier” and “Bergdahl” in the same sentence leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
We now have a President that is not likely to pardon and make a cause celebre out of this poor excuse for an American soldier. President Trump will not go the way Obama did in the last debacle, namely Bradley (Chelsea) Manning.
The greatest justice is for Bergdahl to spend the rest of his natural life in military confinement, with no benefit from his treachery.
Let us hope that is his fate.
