Lets get right to the point. According to leftist “logic”, it is up to them to protect every illegal immigrant criminal because, if they don’t, the right will paint all immigrants with the broad brush of bigotry, which will ooze into society and contaminate all immigrants.
This begs the question, if I’m against releasing criminal illegal aliens from jail and back into our neighborhoods, am I against all “immigrants.” How did that happen? Does it matter how I actually feel or what I say about the issue? Nope. These zealots will not allow you your opinion.
Well, some folks in California are fed up to here (my hand is way above my head) with the entire sanctuary state notion, no longer care how the left labels them, and are not only speaking out but also acting. In the name of public safety, they are doing what they can against the leftist onslaught. For example, the Orange County Register is reporting an announcement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department that pushes back against California’s “sanctuary state” laws.
Orange County Supervisor Michelle Steel, during an interview on Your World with Neil Cavuto, said she believes SB-54, the so-called California Values Act, is illegal. Steel added she believes “it’s government’s first duty to protect its citizens.” What a novel concept.
Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens will publish the department’s online inmate database, including the prisoners’ release date and time. Sheriff’s department officials believe this will improve communications between their department and ICE.
Since the sheriff’s department is not giving the information directly to a federal immigration agency, and it is available to the public, the measure effectively sidesteps California’s criminal illegal immigrant protections, which prevent state officials from cooperating with ICE.
Though bristling specifically against state sanctuary laws, the sheriff will disseminate the information of all inmates released, not only illegal aliens. The department hopes this will aid ICE in removing criminal illegal immigrants from California communities.
The county is not finished, though. Tuesday, March 27, 2018, the Orange County Board of Supervisors plans to consider adopting further actions against the state’s pro-illegal immigration statutes.
And no matter how much the state strives to downplay California law enforcement’s sentiments on the new law, they can’t hide that the state’s sheriffs oppose sanctuary laws. In November 2017, two months before the sanctuary state law would go into effect, the L.A. Times ran an article titled, “Most California sheriffs fiercely opposed to ‘sanctuary state law.’ Soon they’ll have to implement it.”
In the article, Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims describes the high level of access her department had given to ICE before the state law took effect, for which she was widely denounced by pro-illegal immigration advocates. In response, Sheriff Mims said, “We are not anti-immigrant for working with ICE. We are anti-criminal activity.” But in the mind-bent world of leftist politics, as I mentioned earlier, leftists invalidate anyone who disagrees with their worldview.
And it’s not only counties joining to “resist” California’s overreach. Recently, the City of Los Alamitos voted to rebel against the new state law, which protects even criminal illegal aliens. According to KTLA 5, the city is currently deciding whether to join other jurisdictions in a federal lawsuit or to initiate an independent legal action.
The cities of Aliso Viejo and Buena Park are also reportedly considering joining other cities and counties in this “opt-out” movement.
