Police in Portland, Oregon, say federal agents shot and injured two people in the city Thursday afternoon.

According to the Oregonian, the incident provoke condemnation from Mayor Keith Wilson.

“We cannot sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts,” Wilson said in a statement. “Portland is not a ‘training ground’ for militarized agents, and the ‘full force’ threatened by the administration has deadly consequences. As mayor, I call on ICE to end all operations in Portland until a full investigation can be completed.”

Police Chief Bob Day called for calm as investigators, including from the FBI, gather evidence, the paper reported. ABC News reports the officers were from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“We are still in the early stages of this incident,” Day said in a statement. “We understand the heightened emotion and tension many are feeling in the wake of the shooting in Minneapolis, but I am asking the community to remain calm as we work to learn more.”

The Portland City Council was having a public meeting when news of the incident broke, prompting Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney to quickly adjourn.

Police said the shooting happened in the 10200 block of Southeast Main Street, the location of Adventist Medical Center.

The Oregonian reports a worker at a nearby medical office reported that someone ran into her suite and said, “You guys, be careful. There was just a shooting in the parking lot.”

Animosity toward federal law enforcement officers is high this week after the Wednesday shooting of protester Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis.
