A police checkpoint sting ahead of Easter Weekend has drawn in motorists thanks to a new tactic – chocolate.
Officers set up a series of checkpoints across Christchurch over Wednesday and Thursday and stopped hundreds of cars, but the aim was not solely to breath test drivers.
Instead, police handed out key ring tyre-tread checkers, Cadbury Freddo bars, cleaning cloths for sunglasses and responsible driving brochures as part of Operation Drive Safe, jointly run with the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).
