An attempted suicide bomber who set off a rush-hour explosion at the nation’s busiest bus terminal is a Bangladeshi national living in Brooklyn who was inspired by ISIS, law enforcement officials said.And the event, which could have been a far greater tragedy had the device fully detonated, underscores that despite defeat in Iraq, the ISIS ideology is still alive and well and lives among us.
Law enforcement officials said the assailant was inspired by ISIS but didn’t appear to have direct contact with the group and likely acted alone. His target, a hub of transportation in one of the world’s largest cities, also highlights the focus on mass transit – and mass murder.
