Vichy Republicans, akin to the Vichy French who collaborated with the Hun in WWII, and RINOs are one and the same creature. I like the Vichy reference a bit better because, one, I am a history geek. Two, because it speaks not just to their insincere party loyalty, but also to their craven subjugation at the hands of a hostile opposition.
Such as it was yesterday when Dem presidential primary contender Senator Amy Klobuchar claimed that the late GOP Senator John McCain recited the names of dictators to her during Trump’s inauguration speech to show a comparison between said despots and the incoming Trump administration.
It is likely a blatant lie and a lame one at that. But then the senator from Minnesota is known for her erratic behavior, at least according to her own staff.
However, certain Republicans, as McCain once was, give probable liars like Klobuchar ammo by repeatedly trashing other members of the GOP, thus doing the Dems’ work for them. This happens with the Vichy GOP so much so that their words are regularly used by the Dems against the party and voters those Republicans claim to represent. The same is true with the recent attention-seeking ramblings of GOP House member Justin Amash. No doubt we’ll see his little comments in 2020 Dem media attacks against the president.
What do these ostensible Republicans think? That they will be lauded as rebellious idealists by all and sundry and not used as Judas goats by Dems? That, in the political fight of our lives, their apostasy will be seen as noble independence by their fellow Republicans?
Complete and utter bosh.
These “useful idiots,” a term thought to be used by communists when speaking of Western liberals, are mere inadvertent pawns for the hard left. They should know this because of the newly minted Bolshie praise that cascades upon them when they criticize other Republicans. But alas, their egos are so needy it blinds them to the fact that when you lie down with dogs you get fleas.
Got to give it to the Dems, rarely does one of their own go off message or break party discipline like a rookie. I guess it could be said to be an intellectual advantage to the GOP to have free thinkers and not robots in their midst.
Nevertheless, there are times for debate and times to stand up for what you were elected to represent. Vichy Republicans forget that, much to their own shame and, more so, to the detriment of their party and their country.
