SCOTUS Slaps Down Atheists

In an overwhelming 7-2 ruling yesterday, Ginsberg and Sotomayor dissenting, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a cross that serves as a war memorial in Bladensburg, MD, can remain standing despite opposition from a state atheist group.

The cross honors U.S. military battle deaths from the area in WWI and has stood at the same spot for nearly a century. The decision reverses a lower court ruling that claimed the cross violated the Constitution. The majority opinion here, written by Justice Alito, referenced another SCOTUS ruling in 2005 in the Van Orden v. Perry case.

Now while the justices overwhelmingly ruled the cross was not only a religious symbol, as there are many military and commercial images also associated with the cross, it puts the radical left and aggressive atheists on notice that their targeting of faith-associated symbols will be looked at askance by the current high court.

What this court understands is that the U.S. Constitution’s Establishment Clause secures freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

It merely proscribes a state religion, as was and still is the Church of England in the UK. Thus it cannot be legitimately used as a hammer to bash faith in general. Usually, as we all know, the target is Christianity, which is practiced by the Roman Catholic faith and many Protestant denominations in America. The Establishment Clause protects all faiths from official minority status, just as much as it does the majority Christian faiths in the U.S. from unwarranted interference.

This unsuccessful move is one of many in a long list of challenges the left has promulgated to attack traditional cultural mores in the United States since the 1960s. It also is part of a larger effort by the left and their Dem allies to obscure and then erase the Judeo-Christian ideals that were a major part of the founding of this nation.

As has been said, Western culture is based on three pillars: the Bible, Greek philosophy, and Roman law. Radical atheists and the left, not satisfied with adhering to their own ideals free from bother, feel duty-bound to try and destroy the Judeo-Christian ethos because of their greater campaign to destroy the traditional West from within.

This SCOTUS ruling will make it harder for them to do so.
