This will be a shocker, literally, for many. Agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement soon will be getting gloves that can provide a shock that subdues the obstinate.
A procurement notice from the Department of Homeland Security confirmed it’s not a done deal yet. But the plan is for officers to have gloves “capable of delivering electric shocks during physical confrontations,” according to reports.
They are G.L.O.V.E., or Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter, and are marketed as a tool to help officers gain control over resistant people.
A report posted by Newsweek said the expect costs are $20 million for thousands of the gloves.
“ICE is constantly assessing the needs of our officers in the field to ensure they have the tools and equipment necessary to safely arrest and remove criminal illegal aliens from our country,” a DHS spokesperson told Newsweek. “Every decision is made with careful consideration and appropriately reviewed to ensure that any technology ICE utilizes is consistent with all applicable law enforcement policies and standards.”
Compliant Technologies describes the devices as a wearable items that function as a standard patrol glove until activated.
There’s a switch on the glove, which then can deliver an electrical stimulus.
Newsweek documented that the program is able to achieve “compliance within seconds.”
And there are no “lasting marks.”
Some law enforcement agencies already have acquired and used the tech, the report said.
The plan immediately drew opposition from Rolnick Borchetta of the American Civil Liberties Union, who told a wire service that the public should have little confidence officers would use the devices appropriately.
It’s intended for hands-one confrontations and can deliver up to 380 volts.

ICE officials explained ICE, under President Donald Trump, is “targeting the worst of the worst.”
Those would be “criminal illegal aliens including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists.”
