The tragedy of it notwithstanding, this is almost becoming mundane. We get an attack such as Sri Lanka where decent people, this time Christians, are murdered in droves by terrorists and the international alarms go off. Then the tweets go out, profile picture frames change on Facebook, and soon the West hits the Islamist snooze button and is lulled back into slumber by the forward progression of the news cycle. Another attack in a couple months time?
We go through the motions, hit the button again, and doze until the next attack.
Paris, Orlando, Manchester, they come and go. Sure, there are no doubt special operators across the globe hunting this scum. But the Islamist animals are motivated by religious lunacy. Thus they are virtually looking forward to getting a lead-encased greeting card from a U.S. Army Ranger.
And it’s not as if they have been covert about their motives and plans. Most major psychopathic killers are Chatty Cathys. Hitler, Lenin, Mao, all were not coy about their goals. Neither are the Islamists. They have declared war on us whether we recognize it or not.
There’s got to be a way to prosecute this conflict that will deter them from their course. I can think of one. It’s neither pretty nor humane. However, it’s better than enduring an endless catalog of Sri Lankas.
As with any snake, this entity is controlled from the head. Chop it off and the snake withers and dies. We know who funds many of these groups. We know where they are. Many hold court in the putrid precincts of Islamist turf like Iran. We announce to them: Any major attack upon Western citizens anywhere in the world by Islamist terrorists will be considered a direct attack upon the United States, requiring a retaliatory response by the United States upon the primary national sponsor of the attack.
The formula? One serious assault on us or our allies and one military base, by conventional means, gets wiped off the face of the planet. We can use the definition of “ally” rather elastically. No significant boots on the ground. No invasions. Regime change if we can by hook or crook. Think 1953’s Operation Ajax with guided ordnance as a fun prelude.
No deal there? Target their national leaders. Turn them into hermits. If that also doesn’t work, the dark prospect of targeting population centers could be considered. If this is truly a war, and the resorts in Sri Lanka were not anywhere near military centers, then that phase of the fight has started already anyway.
Yes, it is brutal and not necessarily a final answer to the threat. However, more brutal still is to drink the bitter dregs of massacre ad nauseum at the soiled hands of Islamist butchers because we once again hit the snooze button and went back to sleep.
It is time we awoke and put them to sleep. For good.
