Today, the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), one of the nation’s premier military colleges, decided to remove the statue of Confederate General Stonewall Jackson from a place of prominence on the parade ground, and place it ‘out of sight’ somewhere else.
This decision is a travesty and will harm the national security of the United States in the long term.
Stonewall Jackson was a military genius. That is why he was called ‘Stonewall’. Forces under his command were impenetrable by the enemy.
He was a devout Christian. He was a fierce warrior.
Those are qualities VMI officer candidates should emulate, not destroy.
Jackson, like Confederate General Robert E. Lee (who is also buried nearby), answered the call to defend Virginia from what they saw as Northern invaders. They answered the call to defend their families, their land, their way of life.
Slavery was a fact across the world in the early 1800s. Britain, and then her former colony, the United States of America, ended slavery in the West. Society evolved as it should have. Our nation lived up to its founding.
The Left doesn’t want to admit that slavery still exists today, but not here, not in America, not legally anyway. It is not tolerated. It is tolerated in the Middle East, in Africa, and in Asia.
This has nothing to do with racism. This has to do with military tradition, honor, and courage. There is a difference between real racism which should not be tolerated, and manufactured ‘systemic racism’ which is used to destroy history, culture, and tradition, which the military builds on for power and lethality.
Diversity is not the military’s strength. Diversity training destroys unit cohesion and effectiveness, creating envy, hate and anger. There is no ‘systematic racism’ in our military. In fact, the opposite is true. The U.S. military is one of the most colorblind institutions in the world. There was not a ‘race problem’ in our military until Barack Obama became president. Oh, the irony.
The military is there to kill people and break things at the will of the civilian command structure. It is not to create good feelings, and societal experiments. Tradition works to uphold this vital purpose.
There is a dark agenda behind all of this. At its root is a lie — that America is bad, its history needs to be erased, and a strong, masculine, aggressive military force is something to be ashamed of.
None of that is true.
I guarantee you military officers and enlisted don’t give a damn about the color of your skin. They care about your actions under stress, under fire. There is an old saying that there are no atheists in a fox hole. I would add there are no racists either.
