You could hear the frustration in their voices. Harris, Booker, Hirono, all tried their best to intimidate Attorney General Bill Barr. But he and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham yesterday were having none of it. Crass idiots like Blumenthal could huff and puff and Barr took it and gave it back to them with knobs on.
You see, they’re not used to that. They are used to Republicans going into these things always on the defensive. They are quite happy when a lamb to the slaughter GOP player comes in and, buying the premise of their own guilt, bleats out a pathetic song of surrender to these tinhorn tyrants.
But that is not the administration of Donald Trump or the demeanor of his attorney general. And it clearly pisses the Dems off.
Now the AG, knowing what it will be, looks like he will not show up to his own planned hanging in front of the House today. Chairman Nadler is not amused and threatens him with a contempt citation. Bring it on, Jerry, you putz. You will just dig your hole deeper. You know why, boychik? Because the question would have to be eventually settled by the high court and you and your guys aren’t very popular with a justice or two there.
More to the point, this is all DC inside baseball anyway. It matters only to the Dems and their handmaidens in the press. Actual humans outside of the Beltway know something the Dems refuse to acknowledge: Donald Trump won the presidential race of 2016.
Thus said humans care about issues like the economy, national security, and law and order. As I very previously noted, but indulge me, the more the Dems stay focused on their own neuroses and their bizarre view of the U.S. electorate the more it shows them to be the obsessive losers they were and remain on the national level. You’d have thought after they won the House they would give up the pouting. Nope. They play it up even more.
The AG is right to treat them with his own contempt and tell them to naff off when they try to use the criminal justice system as a “political weapon,” in Barr’s own words.
Like the president he serves, this guy fights back. He’ll have to, because they’re gonna keep on coming at him regardless of reality. In fact, they are clearly delusional or just cynically manipulative. Probably both.
The best thing about the Wednesday hearing was that Barr treated them as such.
