The ‘Resistance’ Myth

By: - September 18, 2018

It doesn’t really matter if you are still “With Her” or if you solemnly vowed “Never Trump.” Those teary-eyed Americans shouting “Not my President” in November of 2016 still have Donald J. Trump as their President today.  The so-called Resistance hasn’t done anything but drag their feet in a feeble attempt to slow down the progress that President Trump promised while still on the campaign trail. The damage of the Obama years is being undone and the left’s identity politics are being sidelined as the laughable sideshow they are. Instead of evaluating themselves and where they lost their way, President Trump’s opponents continue to flail and throw temper tantrums. Instead of taking a deep breath and reflecting on the way the world is in comparison to the way they think it should be, they just continue to scream their inarticulate rage.

One of the greatest weaknesses of the radical left is that while they have the platforms to amplify their voices to the masses, what they have to say does not resonate with the average American. They can rail against the concept of two genders and attempt to find racism in everything that every white person has ever done, but the majority of people are rolling their eyes. Not because most people are racists or “transphobic,” but because the hysterical screaming and focus on niche issues simply alienate the average human being. In short, the far left has become the leading voice for fringe ideologies and radicalized conspiracy theories. Keith Olberman is the new Alex Jones, Louise Mensch the heir of Art Bell.

Celebrating and declaring that “Trump is finished now” every time there is any piece of news that mentions Trump just ruins your credibility. You look silly and nobody can take you seriously as an adult when you jump from sound bite to sound bite declaring “Next step: Impeachment.” Look at how deranged Bill Palmer comes off multiple times a day, delusionally tweeting around the clock about things that simply will not impact the Trump Presidency.

When it comes to the confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh, Democrats knew from the beginning that there was nothing they could do to prevent his appointment to the Supreme Court. Yet, they still decided to turn their hearings into a virtue-signaling performance art piece. Once a date was set for the vote, they made one last motion to delay it until next week, while a United States Senator attempted to assassinate the character of Judge Kavanaugh by making public and unsubstantiated accusations against him. This Senator, Diane Feinstein, is the same woman who employed a Chinese spy on her staff for over two decades. Yet, the so-called Resistance celebrated for three hours as they claimed that Kavanaugh was finished and was going to be taken down by the FBI. Then it was confirmed: the shameless maneuver was a complete failure.

The Resistance is only a resistance in the same way that a spoiled child lying on the ground and pounding their fists is a resistance. The other children who could have been your friends are now embarrassed for you, and your parents are too exhausted to even deal with yet another tantrum. The problem is that in this scenario, nobody is going to cave in and buy you the pony you think you deserved. We’re just over here, watching and laughing, confident that before long you’ll cry yourself out. You’ll get a clean diaper and a nap; hopefully, you’ll figure out that tears don’t get you what you want. We’ll still be here when you wake up, if you decide you want to play nice and be part of the team. If not, that’s okay too. The more you scream, the better we get at tuning you out.
