‘They’re promoting the communist agenda I survived’: Woman who migrated from China running for congressional seat

Congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams told the Daily Signal that witnessing Democrats push the same policies she experienced under the Chinese Communist Party motivated her to want to unseat Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-N.H.

Goodlander, who spent more than 10 years in Washington before running for Congress in 2024 and served as a legal counselor to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland under former President Joe Biden, has refused to condemn socialism when asked. She also voted “present” on the September House resolution condemning socialism.

Tang Williams, during her interview with the Daily Signal, said she became politically involved under former President Barack Obama after realizing that “what he said, what he did” reminded her of what she “went through in China.”

“I don’t want my kids to live in some socialist country,” she said. “It sounded familiar to me. [Obama] was pushing for common core, centralized government and education, and the bribe state with the federal dollars to push.”

“I took my kids out of public school and put them in a charter school to exercise my parental choice,” Tang Williams added.

Tang Williams describes herself as a “new American citizen by choice.” She says if she gets sworn in to Congress in January, she will work to challenge the socialist policies championed by Democrat officials such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.

“I left socialism and communism, and you actually have the privilege to be a congresswoman in this country, and you chose to uplift the evil ideology I already survived?” Tang Williams said. “[Washington] has a cost affordability problem, out of control spending, pork, and special interests, and now you’re trying to sell people more government?

“You really need more people like me to go to Congress and be the antidote to them. Instead of showing gratitude for this country … they’re promoting the communist agenda I survived.”

Battle for New Hampshire’s 2nd District

In a matter of weeks, Tang Williams will face off against Goodlander in the 2nd Congressional District. Despite campaigning without any big or corporate endorsement and relying on “individual donors and volunteers” to unseat the incumbent, she remains optimistic heading into the general election.

“Without even airing one TV ad in 2024, I fell short of just 5% of Goodlander,” Tang Williams said, adding that she now comes with more resources, name recognition, and volunteers than before.

She also criticized Goodlander, calling her a “deep-state insider” from a wealthy family who bought a home in the congressional district just to run for the open seat.

Goodlander did not respond to the Daily Signal’s request for comment.
