The flag of the Puntland state of Somalia

Democrats in Minnesota state government, who have been bludgeoned with allegations of billions of dollars of social services fraud in the state’s Somali community, previously adopted a new state flag that has marked similarities, color, star design and more, to the Somali flag.

Now they want impose a state law that would punish local governments that refuse to endorse their agenda.

The design has been controversial since it was adopted, and in recent weeks many local governments have decided to return to the historic state flag.

A report at Fox explains how Democrats in the state now have proposed punishing, by withholding funds, cities and counties that don’t push the politicized new banner.

The original flag, dating to 1893, is a more traditional design with a seal image on it.

Already, Inver Grove Heights, Elk River, Champlin, Zumbrota and Plainview have returned to that emblem.

The new design is an eight-pointed star on a navy blue background next to a light blue field.

The plan, however, drew a reaction from Republican House Speaker Lisa Demuth, who said it is “dead on arrival.”

She said, “To know that Democrats are trying to take funding away from our police and fire, from our cities, it’s ridiculous. We have real work that could help Minnesotans.”
