Apple Helps China Censorship

OpsLens Video

Lost in the headlines recently is a report that Apple removed Apps that allow internet users to evade censorship from it’s China-based app store.

Long criticized for it’s efforts to censor the exchange and free flow of information of all kinds, particularly political dissent, the Chinese government obtained an unlikely ally in Apple as a result of the move. Though scrutinized and criticized, it should come as no surprise that Apple bowed to the political pressure given that the tech giant has become beholden to Chinese regulations as the country is home to the manufacturing of the products that have made it one of the most profitable companies in the world. This also marks the first time that China has successfully used its influence with a major foreign tech platform, like Apple, to further its censorship efforts.
