To combat the politicization of our national defense apparatus, tenured positions in the intelligence community must be considered.
After a tumultuous presidential campaign that brought with it the politicization of agencies like the CIA at the hands of its director John Brennan, the question must be asked if its time to establish the D/CIA role as a tenured position, similar to that of the director of the FBI. Though much criticism was also aimed at current FBI Director James Comey, he has not been beholden to carrying an agenda for a specific president due to the fact his office comes with it a 10 year appointment.
