Ecuador says it has suspended Julian Assange’s access to the internet for at least the second time, citing violations of an agreement that Assange signed in December of last year.
The Wikileaks founder has been holed up for six years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London after being granted asylum. According to a released statement, Assange signed an agreement that he would refrain from posting messages that interfere with the affairs of other nations. However, the official Wikileaks Twitter account claimed that no such agreement was signed by Juliane Assange.
Ecuador’s public affairs office has said that Assange’s online activities put a strain on the relationships it has with other countries, including those in the UK and European Union. Recently, Assange disputed the claim that Russia was behind the poisoning of an ex-spy that occurred in the UK, prompting a back and forth exchange with a minister of state. Although rape charges have been dropped against Assange in Sweden, a UK warrant for his arrest remains.
