Los Angeles prosecutors will not charge a former police officer in the 2015 shooting death of an unarmed man, despite a call by the city’s police chief to do so.
The former officer, Clifford Proctor, believed the 29-year-old man he shot was reaching for his partner’s weapon during a struggle outside a bar, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a report outlining the decision.
The May 5, 2015 shooting of Brendon Glenn in the beach-side neighborhood of Venice was one of several high profile shooting deaths of a black man by police that put law enforcement agencies across the United States under scrutiny over their use of lethal force.
