New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman resigned following allegations of abuse. Four women spoke out to accuse Schneiderman of engaging in physical non-consensual violence, saying they had been threatened into silence and feared reprisal. Schneiderman has been a vocal supporter of the #MeToo movement and had taken on Harvey Weinstein’s company. New Yorker magazine broke the story, publishing the harrowing accounts told by the 4 women, two of whom spoke on the record about the alleged abuse they suffered while romantically involved with Eric Schneiderman. The physical violence included the women being slapped in the face and choked. According to a released statement, Schneiderman said he engaged in private activities through role playing, but denied any wrongdoing or violence against women. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called for Eric Schneiderman’s resignation following the explosive article that detailed graphic violence and distressing accounts.
