President Trump released a statement addressing allegations made in a forthcoming book that present the White House and Trump family in an unflattering light. According to the book, former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon was quoted as calling the meeting between members of President Trump’s campaign and Russians a “treasonous” and “unpatriotic” act.
The book was written by Michael Wolff after he allegedly spoke with several White House insiders to gather information, including details of private conversations involving President Trump. The Trump legal team responded by serving Steve Bannon a cease and desist letter, citing violations of confidential information disclosure. Charles Harder, President Trump’s lawyer, made a separate statement referring to the book content as libel and slander. He also accused Steve Bannon of violating written confidentiality and non-disparaging agreements.
President Trump spoke out against Bannon, accusing him of leaking false information from the White House to the media while serving in his position as Chief Strategist.
