OpsLens Video

A suicide bomber left 57 dead in Kabul, Afghanistan after walking up to a crowd at a voter registration center and detonating explosives. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack after the Taliban denied any involvement. ISIS is strongly opposed to democratic governments. Both terrorist groups are currently operating in Afghanistan with both carrying out attacks against civilians in recent months. An ISIS offshoot group has gained momentum in Afghanistan, growing its presence by importing foreign fighters and weapons into the country. However, the Taliban is much larger and more powerful than the Islamic State. The suicide bombing in Kabul targeted the minority Shia Muslims in the area. Although both terrorist groups operate within Afghanistan, the Islamic State and the Taliban are enemies of one another and both are considered enemies of Afghanistan. The government recently offered to legitimize the Taliban as a political group in Afghanistan if a ceasefire could be agreed upon.
