A rally sponsored by white nationalist group National Socialist Movement went off without a hitch or violence in Newnan, Georgia.
The town had spent days preparing for a clash with neo-nazis, anticipating violent crowds and fearing a repeat of the deadly white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The police presence was huge, with correctional officers being bused in to stand guard between the white nationalists and counter-protesters. The town of Newnan was chosen after the group determined that it was a “white town.”
At least ten arrests were made which were all counter-protesters who vastly outnumbered those supporting the white nationalist rally. Many counter-protesters were wearing black masks to conceal their identities, which is against town ordinances. The neo-nazi group capped off their rally by gathering in the darkness to set fire to a swastika.
