Impeach! Investigate! Fascist! Racist! Misogynist! Orange Man Bad! The Democrats just can’t help themselves. Having pinned all their hopes and dreams on their hero Robert Mueller, they now struggle to find a way to go on. Do they not realize they are doing exactly the worst thing they could do to get President Donald Trump out of office? The Democrats are all but assuring the re-election of President Trump with every word they speak and each action they take.
President Trump, in his pretty predictable and calculated way, continues to goad the Dems along the trail to self-destruction. His tweets keep poking at the Democrats, who steadily try to find a way to remove him from office. It is almost a dare to try to take him out, and by doing so, the Democratic Party has lost all focus on the business of why voters placed them in Congress: Legislating.
Added to this is the feckless effort headed up by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) to issue subpoena after subpoena, convene hearing after hearing, and continue to place zeros on the board. The country outside of the beltway has lost interest in the whole endeavor. Like the old saying about the boy who cried wolf, the Dems have lost all credibility and are a party in chaos.
President Trump has taken the ammunition the Dems have given him and ran with it. Not only is the Democratic Party so obsessed with removing him, but they are also fighting the president on just about everything…merely because it is something the president is trying to do. This too is becoming counterproductive for the Democrats.
Then there is the other gift that just keeps on giving, namely the “Squad.” The Squad has become a favored target of the president. It makes such perfect sense to use the tool that the Dems have handed him. AOC and her squad is the bane of the Dems as they suck all the oxygen from the room. They are so far-left, so out of the mainstream, that they are a constant thorn in the Democratic Party’s side. Knowing this and seeing the way the press kowtows to them, Trump is doing everything he can to paint them as the face of the Democratic Party. In this effort, he is successful.
As the Democrat presidential candidates attempt to court the far-left and radical wing of their party and gain the approval of the “squad,” they are repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot. For his part, President Trump is handing them the bullets.
The more the Dems focus on fighting Trump —trying to remove him from office, and resist in every way— the more they lose relevance. The Democratic Party is not focused on governing. They are not engaged in what is good for the nation. Unwittingly, they are doing everything they can to assure that the 45th president will also succeed in being the 46th president in 2020.
It may seem counterintuitive for President Trump to continue to poke the hornet’s nest, but he knows exactly what he is doing. Frankly, it is fun to watch the Dems scarf down the bait.
