Support for WNBA sharpshooter Sophie Cunningham is surging around the nation in the wake of her belief that only women should compete in women’s sports.
Cunningham’s initial remarks stirred controversy among supporters of biological men and boys competing as pretend females.
“I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And I’m like, ‘I never once said that,’” Cunningham told ESPN earlier this month. “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest.
“And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
This week, Cunningham again made headlines as a group of teenage girls expressed their support for the basketball player at a game between her team, The Indiana Fever, and the Seattle Storm.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, after the game, the co-owner of the Storm, Celeste Keaton, berated the girls for their pro-woman stance, raising her voice and called them “f***ing insane.” The verbal attack left one girl in tears.
Now other supporters of Cunningham, teammate of star Caitlin Clark, have arranged rallies to support her.
According to Outkick, upcoming WNBA games in Portland, Oregon, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, will feature rallies outside the arenas in support of Cunningham.
An organizer in Portland is unsure how large the rally might be. The Fire will host the Fever and Cunningham Friday night.
“We were just going to do something quiet with just a couple of us, and seeing what happened to those girls, we just thought, ‘We can’t be quiet,’” Washington-based activist Amy Sousa told Fox News Digital.
A rally in Minneapolis will be led by XX-XY Athletics founder and former U.S. gymnastics national champion Jennifer Sey.
“I don’t want to be quiet about this,” Sousa said. “I want to stand in public solidarity with those girls. I also want to stand in public solidarity with Sophie and keep this momentum going.”
