Women’s March Gave No Support to Democratic Congressman Keith Ellison’s Accuser

An explosive report published by Tablet revealed a whirlwind of chaos surrounding the national Women’s March.  The expose details anti-semitism at the very core of the organization, mysterious financial reports, hostile takeovers, controversial alliances, and shady business practices. The undoing of the Women’s March began when leaders Tamika Mallory and Linda Sarsour publicly fawned over Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, referring to him as the GOAT (greatest of all time).

The first Women’s March on Washington proved successful and profitable according to financial documents. The leaders trademarked Women’s March—a move opposed by other organizers—and kept the momentum going by attaching the movement to high-profile causes covered extensively in the media. The Women’s March took up the viral MeToo movement, which supported survivors of sexual assault and violence and encouraged them to share their stories.

During the contentious confirmation hearing for now-Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the Women’s March—led by Linda Sarsour—mobilized in Washington D.C. to protest in support of an accuser of Judge Kavanaugh. Using the hashtags #MeToo, #TimesUp, #BelieveWomen, and #CancelKavanaugh, Women’s March launched a massive campaign against Brett Kavanaugh. The protests garnered national media attention and led to several arrests.

In sharp contrast, when Karen Monahan came forward with accusations of domestic violence against Minnesota’s Attorney General-elect Keith Ellison, the Women’s March didn’t give her a voice. Few outlets reported the accusations during the campaign and Ellison was subsequently elected. He has since stepped down from his position as deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

It was Monahan’s son who first leveled public accusations against Keith Ellison in a lengthy Facebook post. Upon confirmation from Karen Monahan, an investigation was conducted by the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. This investigation was led by an attorney from a law firm that has previously donated $50,000 to Keith Ellison’s campaigns since 2006. Karen Monahan did not have legal representation during these proceedings.

Keith Ellison and Linda Sarsour appear to have a friendly relationship. Ellison has also faced scrutiny over association with the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan. The pair have publicly expressed support for one another on social media and appeared together on numerous occasions. When asked by a reporter if she believed Keith Ellison’s accuser, Sarsour refused to answer. The Women’s March leaders were heavily involved with the midterm campaign and pushed the hashtag #MyMuslimVote. Keith Ellison is the first Muslim elected to Congress.

There has been no public accountability for Rep. Keith Ellison and he will soon take the helm as Minnesota’s “People’s Lawyer.” The Minneapolis Police Department refused to investigate the matter, citing a conflict of interest. Karen Monahan has made the decision to continue speaking about what she endured, hoping her words resonate with women who have gone through similar abuse.  Monahan has faced a torrent of verbal assaults and attacks on her social media. The most disturbing come from liberal women accusing her of shilling for President Donald Trump and questioning her character. While the Women’s March unapologetically dragged Justice Kavanaugh through the mud, accused abuser Keith Ellison somehow remains unscathed.
