President says DOJ submitted ‘watered down, politically correct’ exec order to Supreme Court

President Donald Trump unleashed a torrent of tweets Monday over the uncertain fate of his travel ban executive order and blasted the Justice Department for submitting a “watered down” and “politically correct” version to the Supreme Court.
The president’s executive order, temporarily banning travelers from six terrorism-compromised countries from entering the U.S., has been repeatedly dogged by the courts. Trump sought to put a spotlight on the urgency of the ban in the wake of a terrorist attack in London over the weekend that left seven dead and more than 20 injured.
“People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!” Trump tweeted.

The administration was forced to re-write the travel ban executive order after an appellate court blocked the first version. Another appellate court has blocked the revised version and the Supreme Court agreed to listen to the case.
“The Justice Dept. should have stayed with the original Travel Ban, not the watered down, politically correct version they submitted to S.C.,” Trump tweeted. “The Justice Dept. should ask for an expedited hearing of the watered down Travel Ban before the Supreme Court – & seek much tougher version!”

The president has been frustrated with attacks from the left on the executive order seeking to portray it as a “Muslim ban” — even though more than 50 other Muslim-majority countries weren’t included in the travel ban. Both the 9th Circuit and 4th Circuit courts that blocked the first and second version of the order respectively, argued the order may target Islam as a religion.

Trump renewed his call for the travel ban on Twitter Saturday as the U.K. dealt with the aftermath of the London Bridge and Borough Market terrorist attacks.
“We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!” Trump tweeted.
Neal Katyal, an attorney representing those opposed to the travel ban, seems to interpret Trump’s Monday morning tweets as further fuel for his arguments as he mocked the president.
“Its kinda odd to have the defendant in HawaiivTrump acting as our co-counsel.We don’t need the help but will take it!” Katyal tweeted.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the travel ban case in the next few weeks.
