Shura Meeting: Want the village on your side and intel on where the enemy is? You have to meet the local elders and get them on your side (and pay them). All good relationships start over a meal and tea and the food is better than you think. Would it pass a cleanliness test in the US? Hell no, but we all miss our heavy meat, rice and bread laden Afghan meals. I’d skip the yogurt at the end though – refrigerators aren’t big in the Afghan village community.
