On January 2017, a 15-year-old German girl of Moroccan descent was approached by 2 police officers at the main train station in Hanover, Germany asking to see her identity card. The girl lunged at the officers, stabbing one in the back of the neck seriously injuring him. The girl, identified only as Safia S, was shown to have been staring intently at the officers before the attack. She was subsequently convicted of attempted murder,helping a terrorist organization, and grievous bodily harm. Luckily, the officer survived the attack.
The girl had previously traveled to Istanbul to join the Islamic State in Syria. Although her mother was aware of this fact, and even traveled to Turkey to bring the girl home, she didn’t report the activity. Safia S continued her correspondence with ISIS militants. She followed their orders to attack and was closely supervised by a militant. She was sentenced to 6 years in prison, which her defense has said they plan on appealing.
