In June 2017, a white van plowed into pedestrians on the London Bridge at a high rate of speed. The vehicle continued across the bridge, where it crashed to a stop. Three attacks got out of the van and began attacking bystanders. Four people were stabbed at a bistro as members of the public fought against the attackers by throwing chairs and other items to deter them. According to witnesses, the men shouted “This is for Allah” as they commenced their attack. In total 8 people were killed, and 48 were injured.
The attackers were eventually shot dead by police. It was discovered that they had prepared fake explosive vests. Inside of the van, police found 13 wine bottles containing explosive material stuffed with rags. Blow torches were also discovered inside of the vehicle. The attackers were radical Muslims associated with ISIS. The terrorist organization has frequently called upon their followers to carry out acts of violence in Western countries.
