20 of the Most Horrific Terrorist Attacks in Europe Since 2015

In May 2016, Brussels suffered the deadliest terrorist attack in Belgium’s history.  Around 8 a.m. two explosions rocked the international airport in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, in the main terminal.  One occurred near the American Airlines check-in counter and the other located at the opposite end of the hall.  Each explosion was carried out by extremists wearing suicide vests.  Three attackers were seen on video entering the terminal.  Shortly after the explosions in the airport, another suicide bomber detonated on a carriage of a train at the metro.  In total, 32 people were killed in the attacks.

The attackers were Muslim extremists affiliated with ISIS.  There were 5 men responsible for the attack on the airport and metro, 3 were killed during the attacks and 2 were later arrested.  All 5 were found to be responsible for helping to plan and organize the attacks on Paris in November 2015.  They belonged to a terrorist cell operating out of Belgium.  The leader of the Islamic State had ordered such attacks in response to the coalition formed to counter the terrorist organization.  Four Americans were killed in these attacks.
