In July 2016, an 18-year-old German citizen of Iranian heritage exited a Mcdonald’s in Munich, Germany. The man very calmly proceeds to open fire on pedestrians, sending them running in panic as he moved towards the shopping mall. Chilling video was taken by an eyewitness that shows the beginning of the attack on unsuspecting people walking along the sidewalk in the busy section of Munich. In total, 9 people were killed in the shooting including children.
The man made his way to the top of a carpark where he paced. Video was posted to social media showing a heated exchange between the gunman and bystanders taking cover. The gunman was heard yelling “I am German” to the men who supposedly assumed he was Turkish. The city was locked down as police swept the area for possible accomplices. The ordeal ended when the gunman killed himself. The event was investigated as having possible ties to Muslim extremism.
